Semi hard flap will always remain nice and straight and it can never bend compare to a soft flap.  It will  keep the bugs and weather out as best as possible.

Some cats and doggies (especially Greyhound dogs)  that are older or little more timid might prefer a soft flap instead of semi hard flap.  Soft flap is made from 2mm PVC and it has a magnetic strip at the bottom to keep the flap as straight as possible. Please note - the gigger the flap, more possibility that the flap can close on an angle and allow some weather coming inside due to a soft pvc.
