Description
When you purchase a Patio Link Pet door insert, you will receive a clear semi hard (polycarbonate) flap.
Semi hard flap is very popular & It will always remain nice and straight, it will never bend compare to a soft flap. Its ideal type of flap to keep the bugs and weather out as best as possible.
Some cats and doggies (especially Greyhound dogs) that are older or little more timid might prefer a soft flap instead of semi hard flap. Soft flap is made from 2mm PVC and it has a magnetic strip at the bottom to keep the flap as straight as possible. Please note - the bigger the flap, more possibility that the flap can close on an angle or allow some air coming inside due to a soft pvc.
My elderly small dog is much better with the soft flap on his doggie door. He doesn’t hesitate to use it. He loves the freedom of being able to go in and out. The panel blends seamlessly with my sliding glass door.

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely review :) It looks fantastic in your door! So glad your happy and enjoying it, thank you - from Ivana and Patiolink Family
I got the soft screen because I was unsure how the greyhounds (wimps) would cope with a hard door. I was right. A bit of food and the wolfhound had no problems with it. One greyhound took several days to overcome the ‘pain’ of pushing the door open and the other is still unsure after a week but when she really wants to go in or out will do it. The initial fit was pretty much perfect but within days it started warping so now there is a gap of a few cm (which is good cause the grey sees that and pushes there to get through but bad because of how much more cold gets in - but that’s better than being the dog’s door person!)
Works great. cat would keep stopping half way through the door which led to her tail getting pinched with the rigid one, the soft flap solves that issue.
It is a little tricky to get lined up right while installing, but just needs a little patience and some trial and error.
Do note it can take a while for the item to arrive, just under 2 weeks from purchase for delivery to an address in Brisbane, so if you think you may need one, best buy it with the insert from the start so you arent waiting with an unhappy pet using the rigid door.
The soft flap has been great and I would also recommend it to any greyhounds (whether young or old) especially to get them used to using the flap. Once they are comfortable then you can switch to the hard one for more security. I have the Greyhound size door and even though it’s a large door, I doubt any normal size adults can get in easily, they will likely get stuck!! So the hard flaps are more for avoiding flies and mozzies getting in, not for humans. I have an 8month old Staghound X Greyhound and she needs the soft flap so I’m glad I added that in my order. And once she is comfortable pushing herself in/out and the hard feel of the flap on her back, I might make the change or not. At the moment, I’m just glad the door is her size and she gets the freedom to get in and out on her especially when we leave her home alone. The service from PatioLink has been great too. I have had many Qs and they have been super helpful! The delivery was also fast, from the moment I put in the order to the door arriving at my door was within 1.5-2weeks!! You can’t beat that type of service!! :))
My dog is a little bit precious and hated his other doggy flap - wouldn't use it; I had to strip plastic (like the fly/insect strips on doors) instead of the solid flap which I had to remove. This soft one is fine so long as the bits of plastic I had in the other one are stuck on the front. Crazy dog. He adapted very quickly and appreciates the freedom of having his own 24/7 door.
The soft flap door arrived and was easy to install. Still trying to get the dogs to go through it as they still expect me to open the balcony door. Will keep trying with dog treats and rewards when they go through it.
It is working very well. He wouldn't go through a hard door but he goes through the soft door very well. Thanks for all your help in getting it to work.
Product was good and easy to install. Only issue was communication with company. Ordered the product on the 22nd November but didn't receive until 18th January which was 2 weeks after we received the door. Communication was confusing as was told the soft flap was being posted and then received further email to say it hadn't even gone into production. Very disappointing.
This was excellent for my greyhound! I had tried every treat and bribe in the world to get him to use the hard flap to no avail, and he managed to use this one from day one, stopping all the flies that were getting in. Brilliant!
The soft flap is so much better than the regular one.. doesn’t make the loud sound when our fur baby comes bolting through the door early hours in the morning.. it’s great !!
My small puppy is learning to use the soft flap. The only issue is that the soft magnetic flap does not always align snugly after use, which means that there is sometimes a gap left for insects to enter. I did not have this issue with the hard flap (which I have used successfully for many years with larger dogs), so when the puppy is bigger, I will probably swap back to the hard flap.
The soft flap is great but unfortunately one of the screws on the perspex flap is threaded and we are having trouble removing it.
Any ideas we may not have tried?
Chihuahua puppy in and out like a pro with soft flap without magnet strip. We have retained the strip to reattach once the dog has grown. We purchased the original unit over a decade ago and it is going strong. Highly recommend.
It doesn't make sound as laud as the hard flap. It doesn't press against my dog's back as hard as the hard flap either. So my dog is not afraid to go through it.
Soft flap works a treat for my anxious Cavoodle. Since the change of flap she has no dramas coming in and out.
Added bonus is installation is easy and it only took a minute
